Practicing Safe Sex (a guide for flies)
In an article published two weeks ago scientists found that the sound that flies make while copulating attracts bats. “Bats eavesdrop on the sound of copulating flies”. In their discussion they mention that there is a trade-off between “repeated or long copulation for successful reproduction and short, inconspicuous copulation for survival.” I can just about picture the safe sex pamphlet for flies “Keep it short and quiet! Or you’ll be a bat’s diet!”
