Caenorhabditis elegans two-cell embryo – Eugenel Espiritu

Caenorhabditis elegans two-cell embryo - Eugenel Espiritu

A fixed Caenorhabditis elegans two-cell embryo depicts the localization of the microtubule stabilizing protein, CLS-2, during mitosis. The mounted cells were stained with antibodies against microtubules (red) and CLS-2 (green) and then stained with the DNA fluorescent marker, DAPI (blue). At center, the 2-cell embryo shows CLS-2 enriched at centrosomes, the mitotic spindle, and kinetochores during metaphase (right cell), but absent on the spindle further into mitosis (left cell). The 2-cell embryo sits in-between a 1-cell (bottom-right) and 4-cell embryo (bottom) and the syncytium of the mitotic gonad (top).
